We’re proud to say that lead acid batteries are one of the most recycled consumer products in the world. Over 98% of lead from these batteries is reclaimed. To illustrate: aluminum cans have a recycling rate of around 55%, newspapers 45%, glass bottles and tires a mere 26%. Lead acid batteries, by comparison, set the gold standard.
This success is driven by the closed-loop nature of lead acid batteries. Typically, a new battery is composed of 60% to 80% recycled lead and plastic. When the battery reaches the end of its life, it’s sent to a certified recycler, where the lead and plastic are extracted under strict environmental controls and supplied back to battery manufacturers. The cycle repeats indefinitely.

What’s Recycled and How?
- Sulphuric Acid → Transformed into sodium sulphate, used in manufacturing glass, textiles, laundry detergents, and fertilizers.
- Lead → Battery plates and connectors are melted down, reformed as ingots, and reused.
- Polypropylene → Containers and lids are shredded and recycled into new products.

You can explore state and federal recycling regulations at the Battery Council, and for locations where the Triman logo is used (mainly in France), it signifies extended producer responsibility—products are collected separately and must be disposed of through designated recycling channels.

Power- Sonic collaborates with G & P Batteries to manage scrap collection. We provide VRLA (Valve-Regulated Lead-Acid) battery bins for safe disposal. Each bin handles up to 1,000 kg, and we recommend about four collections per year.
